A line of the Far Eastern art museum park facade - one of the most beautiful buildings in Khabarovsk - is stretched along the silvery strip of the Amur River. A monument of the end of the XIX century architecture, the former Officer assembly, it has got a new life today, combining a spirit of the historical legends with the high-class collection of domestic and foreign fine art works.

The idea of creation of the first Far-Eastern "public" museum belongs to the general-governor of the Priamursky region N.Grodecov. At the dawn of the XX century he has seen in provincial Khabarovsk the model of the future centre of cultural life of the region.

The birth of the museum in 1931 has become a significant event in the annals of Khabarovsk City. More than 1000 exhibits from the best museums of the country - the State Hermitage, the State Tretyakovsky gallery, the State Russian museum and others - have founded the Far-Eastern art collection.

The Far-Eastern art museum is the regional center of researches, expositions, methods, and exhibitions in the fine art field.

The museum collection consists of 14 thousand exhibits. The museum funds keeps the works of icon-painting, Russian masters of the 18-21 centuries, West-European masters of the 15-19 centuries. The works of Priamurie peoples masters and peoples masters of North Far East are the pearl of collection.
